Qualify by Income

Income-Based Eligibility

Understand the financial requirements to qualify for a free government phone and how to document your total household income.

The 135% Rule

Even if you don't participate in a government assistance program like SNAP or Medicaid, you can still qualify for Lifeline if your household's annual income is at or below 135% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. This ensures that support reaches families who need it most.

Income Thresholds

Check if your household size matches the income limit for eligibility.

Household Size Maximum Annual Income*
1 Person $20,331
2 People $27,594
3 People $34,857
4 People $42,120
5 People $49,383
Each Additional Person Add $7,263

*Note: These figures are estimates based on standard guideline calculations. Limits may vary slightly by state (e.g., Alaska, Hawaii) and year.

How to Verify Your Income

If applying based on income, you must provide official documentation to prove your claim.

1

Gather Documents

Collect documents that show your annual income. This can include last year's tax return, or three consecutive months of pay stubs.

2

Check the Details

Ensure the documents clearly show your full name, the income amount, and the date (tax year or pay period).

3

Submit Copies

Never send originals. Upload clear photos or scans of these documents when you submit your application form.
